Moving Beyond the Box >>
As an ISP who prides itself on very high reliability, API Digital understands the benefit of standardization. Maintaining consistency across networks helps insure reliability, ease troubleshooting, as well as limit hidden issues. Unfortunately, the marketplace doesn't necessarily want to be placed in an inflexible box.
The increase in Internet-based applications has caused companies to be much more reliant on their ISP. Although integration companies usually handle all the hardware, the ISP is usually left holding the bag when an application doesn't work correctly. The first response from hardware support usually is to check to see if the ISP permits the type of traffic generated.
Over the past couple of years, the larger, national ISP's have started offering services and hardware support for some of these applications. The only problem is the cost is usually very high and the support is usually limited. ISP's that do not come to the table with some options find themselves being left out of the decision-making process. But should an ISP support specific applications? Is an ISP the appropriate choice to control your firewall?
